THE cream of Ireland’s emerging young hurling talent will be on display in Carlow on Saturday, July 2 when Carlow Town Hurling Club host the All-Ireland under-16 blitz for the 15th time.
Dicksboro of Kilkenny were twice winners of the ‘A’ title, putting victories back-to-back in 2007 and 2008 while The Rower-Inistioge claimed the ‘B’ title in 2002.
Blackrock of Cork will defend their ‘A’ crown.
‘The Rockies’ will be seeking to complete a hat-trick of ‘A’ final wins, having prevailed in 2009 and 2010. The Cork city club also leads the roll of honour with three wins, having also emerged winners in 2005.
A total of 40 teams will battle it out for the ‘A’ and ‘B’ titles, with last year’s ‘B’ winners, Kilnadeema of Galway, also returning for the Carlow blitz.
Inniscarra of Cork are the ‘B Specials’ with three wins while six of the 14 victories have gone to Rebel county clubs – Carrigaline having won twice and Newtownshandrum once.
A total of eight venues will be used in Carlow Town and throughout the county for the staging of games. The closing date for entries (€300 per club) is Friday, June 17.
