Newly crowned Kilkenny senior football champions, Muckalee won’t have much time to sit back and relax following their latest success because they will be in action in the Leinster club championship on Sunday (1pm).

Muckalee, who retained the title, beat Kilmoganny by a single point in a game played under lights at wind and rain lashed Ballyragget on Wednesday night - 0-6 to 0-5. Veteran John Maher and hurling goalkeeper, Colin McGrath grabbed most of the scores as the winners ran up a 0-5 to 0-1 interval lead.

Kilmoganny attacked and attacked when backed by the wind during the closing half, but they came up agonisingly short. The winners play St Andrew’s of Carlow in the Leinster intermediate championship in Dr Cullen Park, Carlow on Sunday.
