NEW GAA President, Liam O’Neill, has signed up a number of Kilkenny officials for his various Central Committees.

James Stephens chairman, Tommy Lanigan, a fellow Laois man of the President, has received a call up as have County Board chairman, Paul Kinsella, Brian Cody and John Healy.

The appointments were announced on Saturday, which was a departure from normal practice when such committees are announced at Congress. However, there is no rule which says that the President could not do as he wished.

Hurling Development Work Group - Tommy Lanigan appointed chairman of this Work Group. Mr Lanigan is a neighbour of Liam O’Neill. He is well qualified for this role. Brendan O’Sullivan, Thomastown, has also been appointed to this group.

Urban Work Group - former inter-county star, John Henderson (Fenians) appointed to this Work Group. A sensible appointment. John has a lot of experience in an urban environment at Bray where he is an active member of the Bray Emmetts GAA club.

Standing Committee on Playing Rules - Brian Cody, James Stephens appointed to this committee. Brian was also a member of this committee under the Presidency of Christy Cooney.

National Fixtures Planning Committee - Paul Kinsella, St Martin’s, appointed chairman. A senior appointment was anticipated for Mr Kinsella. This is an interesting appointment.

Child Protection and Welfare Appeals Committee - John Healy, Tullogher-Rosbercon appointed to this committee.
