Combined forces start well and drive on

The first came in the fifth minute when Eoghan Vaughan sent a clever reverse pass to Padraig Walsh, who gleefully goaled. William Phelan worked hard for a fine solo effort a minute later. After a couple of good points in between, Eoghan Vaughan took a hand pass from Cian Hynes and struck his first of a pair of goals in the 12th minute.

He goaled again in the 18th minute courtesy of a clever pass from Frank Phelan. Galmoy/Windgap had 4-6 on the ’board before Shane Kinsella opened St Martins account in the 22nd minute. He added three additional points from frees during the half.

On the stroke of half time the hosts won a 20 metre free and brought up their goalkeeper, Jason Shore to take it. Opposing goalkeeper, Kevin Duggan deflected the ball over the bar for a point to leave the half time score, Galmoy/Windgap 4-6, St Martin’s 0-5.

The losers improved after the break. They opened with another pointed free from their best player, Shane Kinsella, who performed very impressively. Kinsella was well assisted by Robert Reid and Donal Shore as they battled to keep in touch.

Galmoy/Windgap kept their noses ahead with some nice points from Niall Walsh and Peter Hennessy. They ran out impressive winners over a St Martins side who were short a number of regulars.
