St Kieran’s College showed no mercy and blasted their way into the Leinster colleges senior hurling Roinn A semi-finals when beating St Brendan’s Community School (Birr) by 4-17 to 0-9.

A powerful second half return of 3-10 saw the Kilkenny school destroy the opposition at Ratheniska on Saturday.

The Offaly side were well in contention for most of the first half, but a fine individual goal from midfielder, Liam Blanchfield, with virtually the last puck of the half, pushed Kieran’s 1-7 to 0-6 clear.

Early second half points from Eoin Gough (65), Michael Kenny and Paddy Mullen stretched the winners lead to six before Mullen cleverly flicked the sliotar past Brian Hogan to leave nine between the sides after 38 minutes (2-10 to 0-7).

St Brendan’s were shut out in terms of scoring in the second half. They added just three points. Kieran’s hit a final quarter of 2-5 without reply, the goals coming from Chris Bolger and Michael Kenny to complete a handsome win.
