O’Brien to the rescue for the ’Boro

A POINT in the 33rd minute by young Shane O’Brien gave Dicksboro (0-13) a share of the spoils in the North junior ‘B’ hurling league against Galmoy (1-10) at Palmerstown on Saturday.

Dicksboro held the iniative at half time when they led 0-6 to 0- 5. Their best forward Collins Connolly, had hit three of those points and he really flourished when he move out to right half forward after fifteen minutes.

Galmoy had the majority of possession but hit some awful wides.Joe Ryan did point two frees.They lost two players through injury in the early stages.

The visitors had a tonic start to the new half when Brendan Sherman one handed a Tom Phelan delivery to the top of the Dicksboro net and this put them one point ahead ,1-6 to 0-8.Dicksboro then made a double substitution, introducing Eamonn Campion and Shane O Brien and both made an impression.Campion pointed immediately and four converted second half frees by Collins Connolly gave them the upper hand. Stephen Maher and Joe Ryan pulled back one each for Galmoy who trailed 0-12 to 1-8 after 58 minutes.

Galmoy then switched Donncha Gray from defence to centre forward and he levelled the game after a good solo .Thomas Corcoran had moved back to wing back and he popped up with a long distance point to give Galmoy the lead as full time backoned But deep into injury time the final score levelled the game.

Shane O’Brien, who had been training with Dicksboro minors on the same pitch before this game, ran on to a ball which spilled away from a defender and struck over with ease. Sam Morrissey and Eoin McCormack had been very good in defence for Dicksboro with Enda Donoghue giving most assistance to Collins Connolly up front.For Galmoy Tom Phelan did well at theheart of the defence,while Tom Corcoran had a good second half at wing back.Stephen Maher also

showed an impressive turn of foot.
