Barrow Rangers (Paulstown) and Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) clashed on a cold and wet Saturday evening but the ’Rangers coped best and earned their second win in the junior hurling league, 1-13 to 1-8.
Paulstown started strongly and jumped three points clear with Billy Hanlon and Jason Holden getting on the scoreboard. The ’Comer boys responded well and hit back with two frees from Donal Fenlon.
The windy conditions didn’t help either side, and the losers clocked up 14 wides during the opening half alone. ’Rangers went 0-7 to 0-3 clear with Shane McEvoy and Thomas Whitely getting on the score list, while Colin Dunne shot ’Comer’s third.
The winners then got a goal after pressing hard. Martin Kealy claimed the score.
Both sides started the second half well enough and exchanged score for score. On 53 minutes Erin’s Own found the net with a strike from Danny Byrnes free 60 yards (1 7 to 1 9).
