All-Ireland intermediate club champions, Clara, and James Stephens will go head to head in the Kilkenny senior hurling league final next weekend.

After a hectic weekend of action, Clara finished top of Group B and The Village headed the other group to qualify for the decider.

This is some achievement by Clara, who out-shone championship holders, Ballyhale Shamrocks in their section. Clara beat Dicksboro yesterday by 1-18 to 1-15 to make it four wins from five following their promotion from the intermediate grade last year.

James Stephens beat relegation haunted Graigue-Ballycallan by 1-19 to 0-16 to get back to winning ways after losing to St Martin’s in the last round.

Neighbours Shamrocks and Carrickshock will clash in the Shield final - between the runners-up in each group - while Fenians, Graigue-Ballycallan, Dicksboro and Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) are all involved in the relgation matches.

The finishing places after the five rounds of matches in the league made up the draws for the opening of the championship.

The full fixtures list now is - Clara v James Stephens (League final); Ballyhale Shamrocks v Carrickshock (Shield final); St Martin’s v Danesfort and Tullaroan v O’Loughlin Gaels (championship first round); Fenians (Johnstown) v Dicksboro and Erin’s Own v Graigue-Ballycallan (relegation semi-finals).
