Nine times All-Ireland medal winner, Henry Shefflin will start what will be his 16th senior hurling season with Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup tournament on Sunday.
The Ballyhale Shamrocks attacker has been picked at No. 10 on a strong team to play Galway in the semi-final in Freshford (2pm).
The 2013 season was destroyed on Shefflin, who celebrated his 35th birthday on January 11, when he picked up a number of injuries. He has enjoyed his first Winter in three free of injury, and after getting in a lot of gym work, he is ready to go in the new season.
Manager Brian Cody said he was interested in giving as many players as possible game time in the Walsh Cup before the start of the National League away to All-Ireland champions, Clare, and he has been true to his word.
The team also includes long servers Brian Hogan and Eoin Larkin, and the high scoring trio from last weekend’s win over DIT, Liam Ryan, Jonjo Farrell and Mark Kelly. That trio accounted for 4-10 of the Cats total of 5-23.
