The Presentation, Kilkenny and St Mary’s, New Ross produced a thrilling battle in the semi-final of the Leinster colleges senior camogie ‘A’ championship at Thomastown.

The Presentation, Kilkenny and St Mary’s, New Ross produced a thrilling battle in the semi-final of the Leinster colleges senior camogie ‘A’ championship at Thomastown.

Both schools have made great progress in recent years, and gave their all in the bid to reach the final.

New Ross shot the first score but the Pres replied quickly when a Mary O’Connell free was dropped into the goal area. Orlaith Conlon made a superb catch, turned and buried the ball in the net.

Two minutes later New Ross responded with a great strike. The teams exchanged goals during the following 10 minutes, with Orlaith Conlon making the scoresheet again.

The teams were giving their all but it was the Pres who finished the half the strongest. Mary O’Connell started a great move which set Aisling Nolan on her way towards goal. The latter made no mistake and finished with a low strike to the corner of the net.

The Pres girls added a further 1-3 to lead at half time by 4-3 to 2-2.

The Cats started the second half with all guns blazing. They out-scored their opponents by 3-9 in the second half with Orlaith Conlon and Aisling Nolan completing a hat trick of goals. Aoife Farrell chipped in with a handsome 1-3.

New Ross were overpowered despite strong performances from Aine Gannon and Christine Lyng. The Presentation’s scoring ability proved too much. They won by 7-12 to 2-2 to qualify for the Leinster final on Saturday.
