Mooncoin experienced little trouble accounting for the Ballyhale Shamrocks challenge in this outing in Mooncoin on Saturday in the South junior hurling ‘B’ league/championship, writes Barrie Henriques.
Having played with the stiff breeze in the first half, the home side turned round leading by 2-5 to 0-2. Mooncoin had scored 1-4 before the Shamrocks troubled the score-keeper. Moon’ eventually won by 2-8 to 0-3.
That first goal for Mooncoin was recorded by corner-forward, Mark O’Sullivan in the 13th minute. Mooncoin recorded their second goal in the 29th minute when Nicky Henebery slotted home from an acute angle.
Gary Mason and Shane Timmons scored the two Shamrocks points.
The second half was a dour, uninteresting affair, with neither side setting fire to the bushes. Mooncoin deserved to win obviously, although they looked an ordinary side. Their second half take of three points says a lot.
The loser never inspired any kind of enthusiasm, or real interest even when assisted by the elements in the second half. Dylan Aylward registered their only second half score, a point.
