Competitive adult football returned to the county for the first time in almost two years when Erin’s Own (Castlecomer) and Thomastown met in the Kilkenny junior league/championship.

The teams served up some top class football in Castlecomer. Erin’s Own set a fast pace with a first minute goal but Thomastown got into the game, picking off some neat points to leave things delicately balanced at the break (1-2 to 0-4).

The Grennan side had a huge percentage of possession in the second half, but an over-reliance on hand-passing allowed the fast ’Comer backs to close down most attacks. The hosts did well to pick off more points, then capped a fine performance with a breakaway goal that clinched a 2-6 to 0-4 win.
