Hennessy the star man for the combined forces

Galmoy/Windgap 6-13

Galmoy/Windgap 6-13

Mullinavat 4-5

In A high scoring game, Galmoy/Windgap made the journey to Mullinavat worthwhile when they grabbed a good win over the home side in this under-16 hurling league Roinn B tie.

The game was a personal triumph for Peter Hennessy, who hit 4-5 for the winners, all from play. Not to be out done, Adam Mansfield struck 3-3 for Mullinavat, but he lacked support from his comrades up front.

Liam Fennelly was excellent at midfield for the home side and this strongly built player has a bright future. The winners lined out with the injured Emmett Landy manning the goal, therefore releasing Kevin Duggan to play at midfield from where he hit three fine points.

Mullinavat also had goalkeeping issues when Damien Aylward retired after 28 minutes with Jack Brown taking up position between the posts.

Galmoy/Windgap led by 2-5 to 1-3 at the break and appeared to be in control. An early blitz by Mansfield, which yielded 2-1 to leave Mullinavat ahead 3-4 to 2-6 after 40 minutes, meant the game was up for grabs and the excitement increased.

The move of Peter Hennessy to full-forward was the sealing of the game for the visitors. He went on to strike 3-1 in the last quarter. Brandan Phelan too came to life for 10 minutes when he struck 1-2 from right half forward.

The winners substitutes, Oisin Phelan and Conor Grace also impressed hugely and their workrate contributed to many of those late scores.
