KILKENNY midfielder Michael Fennelly may miss the entire Leinster championship following a fracture of his ankle which could knock him out for anything between six and ten weeks.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks midfielder visited orthopaedic specialist, Dr Tadhg O’Sullivan, in Waterford for a full appraisal of the injury. The wounded on the Kilkenny bench after Sunday’s NHL final included Henry Shefflin, Michael Rice, Noel Hickey, Aidan Fogarty, Michael Fennelly and Richie Power. Between them they have won 37 senior All-Ireland medals and 19 All-Star awards.

Surely it was the most decorated ‘bench’ in the history of the game!
