Ballyhale Shamrocks claimed the Kilkenny SHC title with a 0-16 to 0-13 win over Dicksboro at Nowlan Park.
An attendance of over 9,000 witnessed the red hot favourites lead from start to finish.
Dicksboro substitute Eddie O’Donoghue saw his shot hit the post in the closing five minutes of the game but overall Shamrocks were deserving winners.
Hurler of the year Henry Shefflin had two first half shots at goal saved - both from the 21 yard line. Indeed Shefflin’s goal in the 24th minute was disallowed by referee John Quilty as a penalty was awarded before he finished to the net. Nineteen year old Boro goalkeeper Aaron Duggan proved equal to both of Shefflin’s first half attempts.
In other hurling news, St Patrick’s Ballyraggett beat The Rower Inistioge by a goal in the replayed IHC semi-final and now face Clara in next weekend’s decider.
Thomastown had a convincing win over Lusmagh in the Leinster JHC.
