Kilkenny made it two wins from two when they defeated Clare in the senior Camogie National League in Ballyhale on Saturday, writes T.J. Mills.

Kilkenny opened the scoring in the first minute with a good point from Aine Connery. Clare replied with a Claire McMahon free before Fiona Lafferty put visitors into the lead in the eighth minute.

The lead was shortlived. Kilkenny hit back for two points in as many minutes, Michelle Quilty and Aine Connery making another scoring contribution (0-3 to 0-2).

Claire McMahon equalised for the visitors from a 20 metre free before Denise Gaule put the Cats ahead again in the 22nd minute. Clare then had a penalty from which Claire McMahon pointed.

That score meant the teams went in at half time level at 0-4 apiece. Clare would feel hard done by that they were not ahead as they dominated play for long stretches.

The winners started the second half well and shot five points without reply. Aoife Neary tapped over from 30 metres to get the ball rolling. Denise Gaule (free) extended the lead after a foul on Shelly Farrell. Ann Dalton added an excellent score on 37th minutes before Gaule converted two frees (0-9 to 0-4).

It looked like Kilkenny were home and hosed but that was not the case as Clare charged back. Eimear Considine got a massive score from 40 metres to fuel a late comeback. They cut the gap to three when Kathleen Hogan pointed on 56th minutes.

Marie McGrath narrowed the gap further when she converted a free with two minutes to go. The all important score came in the first minute of added time when Clare failed to deal with a ball that was played into the Kilkenny forward line. Sub Marie Dargan tapped it to the back of the Clare net.
