The Ballyhale club man has surpassed the feats of former team mate DJ Carey and Pat Spillane of Kerry in claiming his tenth award in a 13 year playing career for Kilkenny.

Tommy Walsh has extended his run of Awards to nine - also a record and they have been won in five different positions - defence, midfield and attack.

In all, Kilkenny claimed eight All-Stars in this years award, run by the GAA and GPA in conjunction with sponsors Opel.

Shefflin, who came back from a career-threatening injury to help guide Kilkenny to the county’s 33rd All-Ireland title is joined by team mates Tommy Walsh, first timers Richie Hogan, Paul Murphy and team captain Brian Hogan; Richie Power, Michael Rice and favourite for the hurler of the year, Michael Fennelly.

The GAA and the GPA in conjunction with sponsors Opel run the All-Star scheme.
