11 mins: Kieran Joyce wins a Galway puck-out and works the sliotar to T.J. Reid. Back on his own half-back line he gets the ball to debutant Walter Walsh, who scores his first senior championship point (KK 0-3, Galway 0-1).

14 mins: Shefflin snaps up a point after a Galway back loses possession.
16 mins: GOAL! Iarla Tannian drops in a teasing ball. David Burke gets in behind Jackie Tyrrell, flicking the sliotar home from the edge of the square.

38 mins: Sub Joseph Cooney wins a loose ball and sends it out to Andy Smith on his right to point. It’s Galway’s first such score from play.
40 mins: CHANCE! Larkin’s pass sends Hogan driving through. Sub goalkeeper Fergal Flannery stops his shot, but Shefflin converts the 65.

58 mins: GOAL! T.J. Reid collects a crossfield ball from Richie Hogan but his shot is stopped by Flannery. The sliotar spills in front of Walsh, who has the simple task of tucking it away into the Hill 16 net (2-19, 2-8).

62 mins: GOAL! Galway fans start heading for the exit door as Kilkenny sub Colin Fennelly controls a long Buckley clearance, holding off Johnny Coen and rising the sliotar up high enough to flick one-handed past Flannery (3-20, 2-8).
