Calling all interested in a pubs Pool League

A new Pool League for pubs will begin in October, with teams for all parts of the county participating. Currently there is little pool action anywhere in Kilkenny, so this new venture should be interesting.

A new Pool League for pubs will begin in October, with teams for all parts of the county participating. Currently there is little pool action anywhere in Kilkenny, so this new venture should be interesting.

Competition should change that attitude, because the game is very popular in other parts. From participants in this league and other tournaments that will be organise over the course of the season it is hoped to select a team of 12 players to represent Kilkenny at the Irish inter-county championships in May 2014.

There is an open invitation for individuals and pubs to enter a team into the new Kilkenny pub Pool League championship that will swing into action next month. A Pub League has proven to be a good way of generating custom in establishments during the week when it may otherwise be quiet.

This Pub League will start off in sections such as North, South, East and West and maybe even smaller sections depending on where teams who enter are located. The first stage of the event will be in localised league group format with each team playing matches at home or away each week.

Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of four home games in the league stages. The full league format will depend on the number of teams entered.

The format for the second round onwards will be decided later. The day of the week that matches will be played, fees and so on will be decided at a meeting to be arranged.

Teams will be made up by five players with up to three subs allowed for the duration of the competition. Five players are required for every match, and teams can use subs in a match.

Each match consists of 15 frames (3 sessions of 5). Each player will play one frame in each session. There are three league points to be won in every match, based on how many frames won.

Five frames earns the team one point, eight frames two points, 11 frames three points. All frames should be played as frame count may come into effect if teams are level on points. World 8-ball Pool Rules will apply in all competitions.

No fees have been agreed yet, but the suggestion is that it might be €80 per team (€30 organiser fee) and player registration €120 (eight players at €15 each).

The total fee would then be €200.

Entries must be in by Friday, October 4. A meeting will be set up the following week to elect an organising committee. Details of the league will be finalised then and entry fees paid.

Those interested in entering should contact Rob Malynn (086-3769452, via text) or robbiemalynn@yahoo.ie.
