Kilkenny CBS scored at the double when winning the Leinster colleges senior hurling championship semi-final in Thomastown, beating Good Counsel (New Ross) by 1-14 to 0-9.
The game doubled as the Leinster League final, so the CBS won that title and the ticket in to the provincial final against great rivals and defending champions, St Kieran’s College all in one. The final could be played this weekend.
Good Counsel College began to lose touch during the third quarter when they were out-scored by four points to one to fall 0-7 to 1-10 behind. The losers then had a defender red carded, and there was only going to be one winner after that.
The CBS led by 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time, the nicely taken 23rd minute goal by Luke Scanlon being the difference between the teams.
