Mullinavat made to pay as ’Vat men collect

It was all one-way traffic in Mullinavat on Thursday in the South junior hurling ‘B’ league as Graignamanagh carried far too much ammo for a Mullinavat outfit that, whilst never giving up the ghost, found it difficult to hold on to the shirt-tails of their visitors.

Graignamanagh were 1-5 to the good before Mullinavat clattered over their first score, and so the game continued, with Graig dominating in most areas. Their half-back line of Diarmuid O’Neill, Hughie Flood and Kevin Canning was very methodical in all aspects of the task on hand.

At midfield Thomas O’Donnell and Paul Hamilton battened down the hatches and dominated possession for most of the encounter. O’Donnell weighed in with four good points to add to his huge contribution. Seamus Kavanagh, Jamie McGrath, Dane Mangan and Ryan O’Halloran all made a decent contribution to the Graig win.

At half time the winners led by 1-10 to 0-5. Corner forward Ryan O’Halloran grabbed 1-3 of that total. The surprising element of the game was that few scores came from placed balls.

Superiority

The overall superiority of the Graignamanagh contingent was central to the victory. Besides those mentioned, the likes of Len Blanchfield at full-back, Sean Cahill and subs Lee Kinsella and Nick O’Donnell were also prominent. Mullinavat tried as hard as they were allowed. Paddy Jones could not be faulted for the goal that beat him from O’Halloran. Their defenders, Shane Frisby, Derek Aylward and Mossy Murphy did all they could against the constant surges of the winners.
