To mark Ireland’s Centenary, iconic Irish craft studio, Jerpoint Glass has created a collection of commemorative pieces that pays homage to the Irish Flag.
Inspired by Ireland’s tri-colour flag, Jerpoint have designed the limited edition ‘Centenary’ collection featuring rushes of green, white and orange swirling throughout each of the handcrafted pieces within the range.
Glass Designer and Director of Jerpoint Glass, Kathleen Leadbetter said, “We really wanted to create a collection that would mark this important year in Irish history. The symbolism and the stories behind the Irish Flag really resonated with us and inspired us to create this range. We are thrilled with how beautifully the tri-colours combine in our collection of ‘Centenary’ glassware.”
The Irish flag is a symbol of lasting peace throughout Ireland, with the green representing the Gaelic tradition, the orange signifying the Irish followers of William of Orange and the white representing an aspiration for a lasting treaty between the two. Each one of the handcrafted ‘Centenary’ pieces is unique and embodies the character and quality that is synonymous with Jerpoint Glass.
For almost 40 years Kathleen and Keith Leadbetter have created a unique collection of Irish handmade glassware from their family-run craft studio in Co. Kilkenny. Drawing on 2000 years of glass blowing tradition, the Master Glassblowers at Jerpoint Glass uses handcrafted techniques to individually create their range of table-top glassware.
The character and personality of the craftsmen can be seen in each of the handmade pieces that combine everyday functionality with great design.
Located in the heart of the Kilkenny countryside, yet just 15 minutes from Kilkenny City, the vibrant use of colour and unique design has made their glassware creations recognisable across the globe.
Visitors are invited to come to the studio and studio shop and witness the free glass-blowing demonstrations on the premises.
Priced from €21 each the ‘Centenary’ collection is available Jerpoint's studio shop outside Stoneyford, near Mount Juliet.
They are also stocked at Kilkenny Design on the Parade and online at www.jerpointglass.com. Each piece is signed by the designers and comes beautifully packaged with an accompanying card describing the inspiration behind the 'Centenary' collection.
