’Special Olympics came to Kilkenny City on Saturday with over 200 athletes competing at the South Leinster Athletics event at the Watershed Sports Complex.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Kilkenny, Cllr Patrick O’Neill and attracted hurling stars Richie Hogan and Micheal Fennelly as well as local TD John McGuinness who were all on-hand to present well-earned medals and awards.

The event was also supported by members of the Defence Forces, local gardai and the many dedicated volunteers from the area who came out to support the day and ensure it's success.

Mayor O'Neill said that the Special Olympics movement was an incredible success and a credit to all the organisers.
