Gardai have extended the period of detention to question a man arrested following a stabbing incident in the Market Cross Shopping Centre in Kilkenny City yesterday afternoon.
The victim of the attack remains in hospital this morning, where he is being treated for stab wounds to his head and upper body. A local man, he had been walking his dog at the time of the incident.
Gardai arrived almost immediately, and a man, who is from the city, was arrested within a short distance of the scene.
Emergency services quickly arrived, where they treated the injured man, before he was rushed to St Luke's General Hospital. A woman was also treated for shock.
The scene was quickly closed off by uniformed and plainclothes gardai, and a section at the High Street entrance to Market Cross was closed for a technical examination. Traffic in the area was disrupted for some time.
