Savour Kilkenny 2016 – Festival of Food will host its biggest festival yet this October bank holiday weekend from October 28th to 31st, celebrating a decade of delicious dining and demos in Kilkenny.

A festival first, Savour Kilkenny has teamed up with Gill Books to present ‘Cooks & Books’ featuring exclusive demonstrations by some of Ireland’s most popular authors. Highlights include ‘Cooking for Christmas’ by Darina Allen and her brother Rory O’ Connell of Ballymaloe Cookery School as well as Domini Kemp and Patricia Daly, Rosanna Davison, Paula Mee and Kate O’ Brien on ‘Your Middle Years’ along with Susan Jane White and Eileen Dunne Crescenzi.

This year, Savour Kilkenny will open its first Pop-Up Café and Bookshop at the festival where visitors can meet and mingle with the authors and get their books signed.

Kilkenny will have another chance to settle the score with Tipperary as popular Irish TV Chefs, Edward Hayden from Graiguenamanagh and Tipperary-born Stuart O’ Keeffe, go head to head at a Celebrity Chef Artisan Evening at Zuni.

Festival Manager, Marian Flannery said, “We are thrilled to celebrate Savour Kilkenny’s 10th anniversary this year and we are looking forward to bringing our biggest and best festival yet with some exciting surprises in the programme. We hope lots of people will come along to our birthday party to help us mark the occasion.”

10th Anniversary Celebration

This year Savour Kilkenny will mark its milestone 10th anniversary with a big birthday celebration on Friday, September 23rd. The party will take place in the beautiful garden at Butler House, in the heart of Kilkenny city. Joined by Channel Four River Cottage co-host Steven Lamb, guests will be treated to organic pig-on-a-spit, River Cottage-inspired salads, delicious wines and music by HOT 4 Jazz Quartet. Tickets are available priced at €25.00 from savourkilkenny.com and early booking is advised.

New to this year’s festival is ‘Comedy & Cocktails’ at The Set Theatre, with a dizzying stand-up routine from one of Ireland’s best-loved comedians, Jason Byrne with special Savour Kilkenny cocktails created by Langton’s mixologist Danny Mullally. Tickets are €25.00.

Other festival highlights include a packed children’s programme with special screenings of favourite food films at Kilkenny Castle, the Global Kitchen – the best of world cuisine cooked in Kilkenny, the market in the Savour Village, a smallholders gathering and workshops along with the ever popular Craft Beer and Distillers Pavilion, likened to a mini ‘Oktoberfest’ with DJ and artisan street food.
