Residents in Galmoy who have been on a 'boil water notice' for more than two months now have had some welcome news today.
Irish Water and Kilkenny County Council have notified all customers on the Galmoy Replacement Water Supply Scheme and the Galmoy Group Water Scheme, which serves approximately 120 houses in County Kilkenny and a small number of houses in Laois, that the boil water notice is now lifted with immediate effect.
It follows remedial measures including cleaning of the local reservoir and subsequent testing, which has addressed any concerns re water quality issues in the area. Customers can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.
They have been boiling the water or buying their own drinking water since the notice was issued on July 8.
Irish Water, Kilkenny County Council and the HSE Water Quality Liaison Group will continue to meet, and will review ongoing process control, monitoring and testing of the drinking water supply.
The Irish Water Customer Contact Centre (1850 278 278) is available to answer customer queries in relation to this water notice. Further information is available on the www.water.ie.
