Vicar Street, Kilkenny will re-open on Saturday morning following extensive road works on the street and at Canice's Place.

The area has been closed off to all traffic for the last two weeks to accommodate work on the Central Access Scheme road and the new bridge over the Nore as part of the scheme.

A number of houses were demolished during the work and part of the gable end of one was retained because of its archaeological importance.

The closure has caused traffic problems all over the city and commuters will be delighted work will be completed ahead of schedule and before the Christmas rush.
