The Newpark Hotel on the city’s Castlecomer Road attracted over 200 people on Friday night for the Lions Club annual wine, beer and whiskey fair.
And the clientele didn’t disappoint digging deep to provide much needed funds for the Lions Club Christmas appeal.
The Lions continue to strengthen communities in the city through humanitarian projects where they give to the less well off through a number of charities including the St Vincent de Paul and the Good Shepherd Centre.
On Friday, over 70 exhibitors showcased their products.
Dara O’Reilly-Daly, Marketing Manager of The Wine Centre said they were delighted to be involved in the project and stressed how important it was for us, as a society to look after the less well off.
The president of the Lions Club in Kilkenny, Mr Brian O’Callaghan thanked her for organising all the wholesalers from Dublin, Cork and Limerick and said he knew what a difference events like the fair made in the lives of people who were struggling to make ends meet in the run up to Christmas.
He assured everyone present that every cent from the initiative would go straight to the poor and needy and that there were no administration costs.
Since its inception in 1999, the wine, beer and whiskey fair has gone from strength to strength and plans are already under way for 2018.
Kilkenny Lions Club will be using the former Arts and Crafts Shop, Upper Patrick Street, Kilkenny, beside the Club House Hotel, to display a selection of items that will be auctioned on KCLR on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The shop will open until Saturday from 2 to 6pm each day.
It will also be used as a collection point for the purchasers of all general auction items.
Mr O’Callaghan thanked the owner, Maura Kenealy, for allowing the shop to be used by the Lions Club during the auction.
The items for auction appear on Page 76 of this week’s Kilkenny People and to bid just call 056-779622.
There are many bargains and remember you are supporting a worthy cause.
