Dunmore to accept ‘green’ waste

“Green waste” is now set to be taken at Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Centre.

Since the closure of the landfill facility, the centre is continually working to broaden its range of services. While renowned for its recycling service, since the closure of the landfill, the centre caters for refuse to accommodate people who may have the odd black bag of refuse or small loads resulting from a garage clear out, house renovations or refuse from small to medium-size businesses.

The centre decided to investigate whether green waste could be introduced as an additional service after staff received queries from customers on how to best dispose of green waste such as grass, hedge cuttings, brambles and branches.

A green waste bay has been created at the centre where customers can drop off green waste for €2 per bag or in a trailer at a rate of €70 per tonne.

“We welcome commercial customers as well as the general public to avail of the service over the forthcoming weeks and months. All green waste will be transported off site to an authorised composting facility,” said Alan Rhatigan, the centre’s acting manager.
