The second week of the Irish Times/Pfizer Healthy Town programme, which focuses on healthy eating and nutrition, will take place the week beginning Monday, September 24.
There is a full schedule of free events and talks to inspire people to take on the Healthy Town challenge and make Kilkenny a healthier place.
Head chef at Campagne Garrett Byrne will be joined by John Hoyne of Fishman’s Market for a cookery demonstration in Langtons at 7pm on Tuesday, September 25. Garrett and John will be show how to make delicious and nutritious meals. Those who wish to attend can register on www.irishtimes.com/healthytowns.
To help people make the switch to a healthier diet, there will be nutritionists in SuperValu Loughboy on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 from 10am-12pm and 5pm–7pm. They will be giving advice to customers on how to shop clever and put healthier choices in their shopping trolley.
The City Walk Series will be continuing on Monday, September 23, meeting at Canal Square at 7pm and is ideal for those who enjoy walking and would like the support of a group. The walks are led by a qualified walk leader and explore routes in Kilkenny City and best of all are free for everyone.
For those who cannot make the City Walk Series, the Mayor’s Walk will be taking place every Saturday morning at 11am with Kilkenny Mayor Seán Ó hArgáin.
for those interested in jogging, KRSP Meet and Train Group are on the track at the Watershed on Wednesday mornings at 10am and Friday mornings at 9.30am. Parents and buggies are very welcome (there is a nominal fee of €2).
A free eight-week ‘Ageing with Confidence’ course is being offered to older adults in Kilkenny. The aim of this course is to explore aspects of growing older and to help participants to reach their full potential.

The Irish Times/Pfizer Healthy Town, an innovative collaboration between The Irish Times, Pfizer Healthcare Ireland and the civic and business community of Kilkenny, is a 10-week programme of health and wellbeing initiatives. The programme combines health promotion events and physical activities to encourage people in Kilkenny to improve their health, with most events free of charge.
