The Labour Party in Kilkenny have selected three sitting county councillors to contest next May’s local elections on Kilkenny City East.

Councillors Marie Fitzpatrick, Tommy Prendergast and Michael O’ Brien were chosen at a party meeting on Friday night. With Cllr Sean O’ hArgain selected on Kilkenny City West, and Cllr Maurice Shorthall running in the Castlecomer area, this latest selection completes the party ticket for the elections.

A spokesperson told the Kilkenny People that the organisation committee candidate selection recommendations reflect the local government reform proposals, which in Kilkenny will reduce the overall councillor seats from 38 to 24. These proposals will dramatically increase the numbers of votes needed to elect an individual councillor.
