There were no fireworks at the Fine Gael selection convention for South Kilkenny in the Rising Sun, Mullinavat last night.

There were no fireworks at the Fine Gael selection convention for South Kilkenny in the Rising Sun, Mullinavat last night.

This followed the late withdrawal from the race by Andrew Irish, Slieverure. That left five candidates and all were chosen. They are sitting councillors Fidelis Doherty, Glenmore and Pat Dunphy, Mooncoin along with Paddy Gaule, Tullogher; Fintan Byrne, Ferrybank and former councillor, Johnny Maher, Piltown. The meeting was chaired by Sen Maurice Cummins.

The hall in the Rising Sun was full for the event and augers well for the party’s chances of holding its three seats in the six seat constituency.
