Count resumes in Carlow/Kilkenny - Ann Phelan to strengthen position

COUNTING of votes has resumed at the count centre in Carlow/Kilkenny with the votes of Sinn Fein’s Joe Cassin having been distributed.

COUNTING of votes has resumed at the count centre in Carlow/Kilkenny with the votes of Sinn Fein’s Joe Cassin having been distributed.

And Ann Phelan, who polled strongly from the start, is set to benefit from the distribution of running mate Des Hurley’s 4,683 votes and possibly move to third place in the polls ahead of John McGuinness (FF). Ann Phelan is expected to take up to a third of Hurley’s votes.

The distrubtuon of Cassin’s votes has also aided his colleague, Kathleen Funchion who has now moved within 500 votes of Bobby Aylward (FF).
