A CONVOY of sleek low slung British sports cars congregated in the Castle park last Friday. Having come from the four corners of Britain and Ireland the MG owners club had chosen Kilkenny for a five day tour.
The arrival of the fleet of sports cars provided a boost for the local economy. The owners of the mostly vintage cars, dating from the 60’s through to the more modern machines to sport the MG badge, added over €120,000 in revenue to Lyrath Estate hotel, where they stayed. The city and county also benefited from the petrol heads who spent five days exploring the county’s heritage and craft sites. They followed the craft trail of Kilkenny stopping at Nicholas Mosse and Woodstock Gardens in the village of Inistioge.
A second group of car enthusiasts is expected at the end of May when the Jaguar owners club will pay a visit to Kilkenny.
