The Barry Pender Motors Ltd Ford dealership on the Dublin Road closed its doors on Thursday, with staff being notified at the close of business that day. By Friday morning, the lot was cleared of cars and the premises shut.

In response to the closure, Ford Ireland chairman and managing director Eddie Murphy said in a statement: “We note with regret that Barry Pender Motors Ltd has opted to cease trading as a Main Ford Dealer. We would like to wish the staff of the company every success for the future. Existing Ford customers of Barry Pender Motors Ltd will continue to be served by the network of Ford dealers across the South East region.”

Metal fabrication company AI Engineering, formerly Castle Engineering, has also closed down, as has the the Hallmark shop in the Market Cross Shopping Centre.

And the city has another vacant shop front on the Butterslip as the Slip Sweet Shop has closed its store there to trade exclusively online at http://slipsweetshop.com.
