KILKENNY manager Brian Cody is to be awarded an honorary doctorate, along with other sporting luminaries, at a ceremony to be held at UCC later today.
Cody is regarded as one of GAA’s all time greats, and has guided Kilkenny to winning eight all Ireland titles. Hopes are high that Cody will lead the Cats to victory again this Sunday when Kilkenny take on Galway in this year’s All Ireland final.
Other awardees to be conferred at the special ceremony this September include renowned horse trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has trained and rode a litany of winning horses, including Istabraq, Rip van Winkle, among others. Denis Irwin, who has won 59 caps for Ireland and played for Manchester United, alongside camogie and Gaelic football player Mary O’Connor, will also be honoured on the day.
