A NEW Facebook page has been set up for the residents of towns in South Kilkenny to exchange information and warn others about criminal activity in their villages.

‘Piltown – Stop Petty Crime’ was set up last week by a local resident to draw attention to crime in the locality. The page already has over 135 likes and has become a forum for discussion and information sharing on criminal activity in the area.

In one exhortation to residents of Fiddtown, the author writes: “Two minors were seen in your village two days ago at approximately 6am in the morning, walking around checking cars etc.”

In this case, the offenders were young teenage males.

There have been a number of crimes committed in areas such as Belline Vale, Banagher Court, Clonmore Hall, The Meadows, and Stoneybridge. Cars have been broken into, and a number of houses have had windows and doors tried when people were out.

The page’s author has challenged people to get involved and doing something about the problem.

“Thanks to all for spreading the word,”writes the author.

“And keep telling everyone, don’t assume that someone knows. Be a good neighbour and look out for your neighbour. This village has a reputation for being one of the best places to live in the South East.” To find out more or see the campaign in action, visit https://www.facebook.com/PiltownStopPettyCrime.
