Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) is looking for people interested in investing in hostel-style visitor accommodation close to the River Barrow, in a new initiative to boost rural tourism in Kilkenny.

Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) is looking for people interested in investing in hostel-style visitor accommodation close to the River Barrow, in a new initiative to boost rural tourism in Kilkenny.

Through the LEADER programme, KLP can significantly grant-aid property owners with eligible applications for either new-build development or adapting suitable properties in these areas.

Hostel-type accommodation in this context can include varieties of supervised, inexpensive accommodation for travellers and visitors.

All proposals should include a self-catering kitchen with informal dining amenities, adequate toilet and washing facilities and common social areas.

Within these basic requirements, proposals will be considered across the range from simple dormitory (bunkhouse) to ‘boutique’ hostels offering twin/ single rooms, en-suite toilet and bathing facilities.

The proposal should include how the hostel operator plans to cater for supporting the likely interest of visitors in outdoor activities of the Barrow region. Combining serviced camping facilities with the project will also be considered in assessment and evaluation of the project.

The project applicants will be expected to produce a business plan that will demonstrate their commitment to operate the hostel-accommodation building on a long-term basis.

The normal terms and conditions of the LEADER programme in relation to eligibility, evaluation and approval will apply.

Interested parties should email queries or outline proposals, including the location of properties and their ownership, and contact details to hostels@cklp.ie.
