First Stook Hill race-walk on Sunday

ON Sunday the first Stook10 mile road race and 5 kilometre fun run/walk will be held in Dungarvan/Gowran. For the past number of weekends local residents on Stook Hill have looked on in amusement as its heretofore quite meandering roads are blotted with athletes of all shapes and sizes as they labour to its summit and revel in the relief and satisfaction of its descent.

For the past number of weekends local residents on Stook Hill have looked on in amusement as its heretofore quite meandering roads are blotted with athletes of all shapes and sizes as they labour to its summit and revel in the relief and satisfaction of its descent.

The numbers each weekend have increased steadily. Groups can be seen gathering at Dungarvan church from early morning going through their stretches. Some time later their heavy breaths billowing like smoke stacks in the cool crisp air as they toil on this proud and picturesque hill.

All this hard work and preparation will no doubt be rewarded this Sunday as Stook Hill will comes alive like never before. It promises to be quite a spectacle as the co organisers Young Irelands GAA club and Gowran AC put the finishing touches to the preparations. Registrations online have exceeded expectations and athletes are reminded that registration on the day will close at 11:30. Changing facilities are provided in Dungarvan hall and there will be refreshments and snacks for all athletes post race.
