One of the biggest attractions at local venues lately sees soap and reality TV stars rock up to put in a personal appearance.
Last week at the Teenage Easter Ball, revelers got to meet Jay Gardner from Geordie Shore and recently Home and Away’s Brax, aka Steve Peacocke, entertained in neighbouring Carlow. While his on-screen brother Heath (Dan Ewing) is set to meet Irish fans, their H&A colleague Luke Mitchell will be in Kilkenny next Tuesday.
The Australian actor won a 2010 Logie Award for Most Popular New Male Talent for his portrayal of the surf instructor and heartthrob. Now the man behind the role is en route to Ireland for a two-week visit during which he’ll meet fans at several venues across the country.
The first of these sees Luke making an appearance at the inaugural Kilkenny Senior Hurlers Family Race Day at Gowran Park where he’ll team up with the wives of two hurling legends Henry Shefflin and Noel Hickey, Deirdre Shefflin and Elaine Hickey, to judge the Paul’s Most Appropriately Dressed Lady competition.
There’s €1,000 value prize comprising a €400 voucher for Paul’s and a weekend away in the 2013 City of Culture, Derry. Second prize is a €250 Paul’s voucher for the Best Dressed Student aged between 17 and 22, while the Best Dressed Black and Amber Family will also win a prize compliments of Brennan Hotel Group and Tayto.
Judging begins at 4.30pm with runner-ups and winner announced from the Parade Ring at 6.30pm.
The event’s one of the hightlights of the day which is built around a seven-race card from 4.45pm. There’ll also be live music with The Waxies in the Miller Marquee, Irish comedian Paddy Courtney from 5-8pm, a designated kids play area as well as Kilkenny’s senior hurlers and the Liam McCarthy Cup.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to win two tickets for the forthcoming Bruce Springsteen Concert in Nowlan Park in July by filling out a form on their race card and entering it into a draw.The souvenir race card will feature a photograph of the Kilkenny team and a special autograph page.
Admission to the Kilkenny Senior Hurlers Family Race Day is €10 for adults and children under-16 go free. Tickets are available from Paul’s Kilkenny, the GAA Office at Nowlan Park and from supports clubs and club officers throughout county Kilkenny.
