If you are looking for inspiration in the kitchen or just love to watch someone else do the cooking, then don’t miss celebrity chef Donal Skehan’s cookery demonstration in Langton’s Ballroom on Wednesday, January 30.

Skehan is a 25 year old home cook, food writer and popular television presenter. He was on RTE’s recent , ‘Kitchen Hero: Great Food for Less’ and presented BBC’s Junior Master Chef with John Torode.

The cookery demonstration, a fundraising event for Kilkenny Loreto Secondary school, will feature recipes from Donal’s latest cookery book ‘Kitchen Hero: Great Food for Less’ and he will be sharing his tips for thrifty cooking, with a contemporary twist. The recipes that Donal will demonstrate are about home cooking at its very best, making inexpensive ingredients work harder for the money you spend and still creating delicious food as part of your everyday diet.

Nicky Read of the Loreto fundraising group said there would be something to suit everyone at the cookery demonstration.

“It’s easy to get into a rut with home cooking and to cook the same dinners week in week out,” she said.

“Donal’s recipes are all designed to be ‘accessible, inspiring and encouraging for the everyday cook’, so everyone should go home armed with new ideas and enthusiasm to have a go at something different.”

Kilkenny’s local food producers will be also showcased on the night with a Food Market where members of the new “Taste of Kilkenny” group will be selling their local produce. These will include Kilkenny’s very own local food producer heros including Highbank Apple Orchards with their new apple syrup and juices and Inistioge Food Company with their home made jams and chutneys using local fruits and vegetables.

Loreto’s Transition Year students will be getting in on the act with a stall packed with home baking all produced by the students. Skehan will be also signing copies of his latest cookery book.

Doors ope for the evening at 7pm for the Food Market and the cookery demonstration starts at 8pm. Tickets are €20 and are available from the Loreto school office, Langton’s House Hotel or on the door.
