THE Blue Knights, an international motorcycle club for policemen began a 10 day trip around Ireland this morning from Kilkenny. The 170 strong group includes officers from all over Europe and the US.
Speaking at the send-off for the group outside Kilkenny Castle, Supt Paschal Connolly said the Blue Knights were doing their bit to promote safe driving among motorcyclists and he noted that 10 motorcyclists have lost their lives on Irish roads since the start of the year.
““It is important that people are educated on how to ride a motorbike properly and the Blue Knight members have all had specialised training on this,” Supt Connolly said.
Mayor Sean O’hArgain was on hand to send them off and said they had an important message: “you must be responsible when driving a motorbike. “These officers are seasoned bikers and are an example of how people should behave on what can be a lethal weapon.”
