The large fire that swept a warehouse near Belview Port this morning – shutting down much of the area for several hours – is now under control.
Fire and rescue services from Waterford, Kilkenny and Thomastown remain on the scene, and the blaze will still take several more hours to put out. Eight emergency units are attending, and no one is thought to have been injured.
It has also been confirmed that the building in question is not a fertiliser plant as previously thought. It is a storage warehouse which caught fire when a number of diesel tanks went up in flames around 10am.
The port remains largely shut down and the N29 link road is closed. Lorries and other traffic at Belview Port have been told to leave the area for the time being.
