Kilkenny man launches word game App

The Hype Word Game is a multi-directional spelling game whose ‘App’ was recently launched onto the App store by Irish game design company, EyeSeeGames. The Hype is a unique and original word game that aims for, no less than, the re-invention of how we play spelling games. By launching onto iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad the game continues the recent trend of classic games (a traditional boxed version of the game is also available) finding their way onto the latest technological gadgets. Game designer and CEO of EyeSeeGames Gareth Hanlon from Kilkenny, has high aspirations for his new game. “Word games enjoy enduring popularity, Scrabble the market leader, but the Hype game adds something entirely new and consequently will appeal to wordsmiths the world over” said Mr Hanlon.

The game has been developed by Gareth over the last year by drawing on his experience as a private tutor. Hype, which uses octagonal lettered discs, can be regarded as the world’s first linear multi-directional word game because players have the potential to spell in all of eight different directions. The Hype game is played using 60 lettered octagonal discs. Words are formed by placing the discs edge to edge in a continuous straight line, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The unique in-game feature is that almost half of the discs have a dual letter function, whereby, a disc used as a d in one word, for example, can be used as a p in the formation of a different word at the same time.

The Hype word game is the first release by EyeSeeGames and while there are a number of other games in the pipeline; it is envisaged that at least one other game will launch in 2011. The ‘porting’ of Hype to other gaming platforms such as android based phones and games consoles will further increase the availability of Hype to consumers. EyeSeeGames was formed in late 2010 by Gareth Hanlon. Gareth who received a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Development from WIT in 2008 has over 15 years experience in the one to one educational arena and it is this level of experience that facilitates the EyeSeeGames design team to specialize in the development, design and production of mentally stimulating gaming experiences. The launch of the Hype game is also being supported by Surfbox, Irelands leading independent internet kiosk provider, director Thomas Marry commented “Innovative Irish products should be supported and nurtured in the current economic climate and we at Surfbox are happy to be associated with the Hype game”.
