One Leaving Cert student who didn’t really have to wait until Monday to know whether she would get her preferred college offer was Marianna Kelly of Coon – because the Castlecomer Community School student earned a pristine 600 points in the exams.
Having spent the summer working in Euro Languages College and in Ros Muc in the Connemara Gaeltacht, Marianna said she hadn’t had much time to be nervous about the results beforehand, so it was “a fairly big shock” on Wednesday to learn just how well she had done.
Not surprisingly for someone who was among just 141 students nationally to achieve such a score, Marianna said she enjoyed all of the subjects. She cited French, Irish and maths as her favourites, so it was fitting as well that she listed French and maths and Trinity College Dublin as her first choice. “It seemed like the perfect course,” she said.
So on Wednesday night she took the opportunity to go out and celebrate with some close friends.
