A COMEDY treasure hunt that uncovered some golden laughs at last year’s Cat Laughs Comedy Festival is set to return with the festival over the June bank holiday weekend.
Last year’s debut saw the city of Kilkenny taken over by a flurry of treasure-seekers on the hunt for “the ultimate secret comedy gig”. Dashing through the cobbled streets, comedy fans put their detective skills to the test as they deciphered a series of clues, with a little help from local comedy heroes, to reveal the location of a mystery gig and reap their reward.
The second annual ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ will take place on June 4 at 1pm, meeting at the Ormonde Hotel. Similarly to last year, comedy lovers will be put through their paces as they unleash their competitive streak and work to uncover another top-secret event, which promises to be “even more brilliant and bonkers than last year”. With the help of Andrew Stanley, Eric Lalor, Damian Clark, Fred Cooke, Eleanor Tiernan and a host of others, there are more clues to unravel, prizes to be won along the way and maybe even a coach trip, thrown in, reminiscent of primary-school tour days, which will provide transport to a secret location, complete with woodland creatures.
Tickets are e18 and are available at www.thecatlaughs.com. The meeting point is the Ormonde Hotel King’s Ballroom at 1pm on June 4. Participants are advise to come prepared for all weathers as you’d never know where you might end up.
The Cat Laughs Comedy Festival is from June 2-6; the box office is at 93 High Street, 056 7763837, www.thecatlaughs.com.
