No arrest will be made in the Thomastown murder investigation until after mother of five Siobhain Stapleton (nee Kirwan) is buried tomorrow (Tuesday).

The funeral of the 51 year old mother of five will take place at Tullahern Church tomorrow morning and the little church will not hold the crowd.

Mrs Stapleton comes from a large, well-respected family. Her husband Peter is a very popular member of the local community - a plumber by trade.

The murder scene at Glebe Lodge, Kilfane is still cordoned off although the family were allowed back in yesterday to pick up clothes for the obsequies.

Her distressed husband Peter found her lying on the ground in the yard of their picturesque home on Friday afternoon and immediately rang the emergency services. She was rushed to St Luke’s hospital, Kilkenny and died of her injuries while being transferred to Beaumont hospital in Dublin.

She was extremely well liked and her family were her pride and joy. She had become a grandmother for the first time last week.

An incident room has been set up in Thomastown garda station and officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything of a suspicious nature or unusual behaviour in and around the murder area between 1pm and 1:45pm on Friday to contact them. Gardai in Thomastown can be contacted on (056) 7754150 or on the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111.
