The festive fillies were in full swing last Saturday night in the Rising Sun Mullinavat where over 200 fillies attended a gala evening in aid of eight worthy charities; The Aislinn Centre, Aware, The Jonah Project, Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland, The Oasis House, SERT, Waterford Hospice and The Jack and Jill Foundation.

The charities will each receive a share of the monies raised. Those who attended were wined and dined for the evening with all food being donated by various businesses and served by The Rising Sun.

The Festive Fillies would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Phelan Family Mullinavat, the Manager Patrick and all the staff of the Rising Sun who made this evening possible. Their generous sponsorship and continued support since Dec 2008 has helped us in raising 80,000 euro for many deserving charities who in these tough economic times are so grateful for our support.

Along with the Rising Sun, we had fantastic support from local business’s in Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Tipperary and the contribution of theses business’s were central to the success of this event.

The Festive Fillies have worked tirelessly for the last number of months preparing this hugely anticipated event. The committee is made up of 10 energetic and vibrant ladies from Mullinavat namely; Susan Walsh, Sharon Delahunty, Helen Gough, Brid Duffy, Biddy Madigan, Bernadette Kiln, Teresa Barrett, Sinead Madigan, Maria Phelan and Maura Mansfield.

We are so grateful to the women of the south east who attend each year firstly to support the charities and secondly to have a good night out and by doing so create a fantastic atmosphere and make the Festive Fillies such a memorable evening and they all certainly ensured the glamorous attire on the night would grace any catwalk.

The evening began with a brief talk from 3 speakers representing some of the charities. Kathleen Kelly spoke for the Oasis House Women’s Refuge in Waterford. She was followed by Dr Gordon Watson from SERT in Waterford and finally Siobhan Heffernan gave a personal account of the wonderful service provided by the Jonah Project Slieverue.

A Raffle with a difference took place on the night with 15 top prizes plus over 150 more excellent prizes. The 15 finalists were the lucky winners of prizes such as flights from Waterford to London with 4* Accomodation compliments of Waterford Airport and Harvey Travel. Other prizes were a Home Insulation Voucher worth €500 compliments of Eoin and Natalie Madigan from Waterford Insulation, an IPhone 4S sponsored by Vodafone, a Mount Juliet Spa Package and lots of other great get-away breaks in excellent hotels such as Kinnity Castle, The Ormonde Hotel, and The Pembrook Hotel. Lots of Hampers were won along with some fabulous vouchers such as a Photography Voucher from Marguerite Kennedy Walsh Photography who has continued to support the festive Fillies every year with her amazing photography work.

The Fillies were entertained by Keith McDonald and his Show-band from Galway. Keith fronts one of the country’s top Show-bands and the crowd danced the night away to the sounds of this top-class band who were the icing on the cake to a most memorable evening.

The Festive Fillies will present the monies raised to the charities on Wednesday 14th December in the Rising Sun. If you would like to keep up to date with plans for Festive Fillies 2012 you can log on to their web page www.festivefillies.com.
