The footpaths on John’s Bridge in Kilkenny city are being repaired at the supplier’s expense, according to Kilkenny Borough Council, news that has been welcomed by Cllr Martin Brett (FG).
As explained to members in a letter from the council: “The supplier has indicated that failure occurred as a result of use of incorrect adhesive which failed to bond with the non-slip aggregate. A contributory factor was an unexpected night-time frost on the night that the upstream side was laid.”
“A macadam base will be relaid on the downstream side on Wednesday (today) and the path will reopen to pedestrians,” according to the letter. “It is proposed to relay the textured finish to a higher specification when night-time temperatures allow. A specialist crew from the UK will carry out the works, all of which are being carried out at the supplier’s expense.”
