Restaurateur and hotelier Eamon Langton has applied for planning permission to build an outdoor seating area at Kilkenny Castle as an extension of the Langton’s-run cafe inside the castle.

Langton’s had constructed a patio on the lawn area beside the castle last summer, but it was subsequently taken down.

Kilkenny Castle is a protected structure and is owned by the Office of Public Works (OPW).

The planning application submitted to Kilkenny Borough Council seeks permission for “the construction of an 80m2 hard-standing area on existing lawn to facilitate the seasonal locating of seating, sun parasols and a serving counter in the grounds of a protected structure.”
